etetra is working with local schools to apply for grants and generate sponsorship for polytunnels - outdoor classrooms where the children can learn about the environment and growing trees.

Organised school trips to ancient woodlands will let the children collect seeds & nuts – for indigenous species such as hazel and oak – for planting in the polytunnels. The trips will also give the children a greater insight into local wildlife. Children will also be encouraged to plant fruit trees, which are fun to grow.

The Communitree Project has been given a donation of 10 acres of land to use for environmental projects. When the saplings are mature enough, the children, along with local community groups, will be able to plant them on the donated land, in their back gardens or anywhere trees are needed.

The idea is to use the Communitree Project website to form a link between sponsors and local green initiatives throughout the country.
